House Fire Leads To Duo's Arrests For Setting Off, Selling Fireworks In Levittown

A house fire led to the arrest of a Levittown man and a teen after fireworks were found to be the cause of the fire.

The fire took place around 4:20 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, at 277 Blacksmith Road in Levittown, said the Nassau County Police.

According to detectives, police were responding to a call for a house fire and arrived on scene the house in flames. Police confirmed there were no residents inside. The Levittown and Wantagh Fire Departments responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Arson and Bomb Squad investigators were called to the scene where it was discovered that a resident of the home, Simarjit Singh, 29, was storing fireworks at the residence and allegedly remnants of the fireworks set off by a juvenile male, 13, caused the fire, police said. 

The fire caused extensive damage to the residence and a neighbor’s home. Singh and the juvenile were placed into custody without incident.

"For the safety and security of all of residents and visitors, Nassau County Police will continue with their zero tolerance approach regarding the possession and illegal use of fireworks," the department said.

Singh was charged with storage of explosives and unlawfully selling fireworks.

The teen was charged with arson and criminal mischief.

Singh will be arraigned on Wednesday, May 15, and the juvenile was issued an appearance ticket for Nassau County Family Court.
